Greetings From Nashville

ABA Workers’ Compensation Midwinter Conference is Ongoing in “Music City”

Heavy rain greeted attendees yesterday at this year’s ABA Workers’ Compensation Midwinter Conference in Nashville, but inside the Westin Nashville Hotel, the atmosphere was convivial and the sessions were informative.

Magic Wands

One of the first persons I ran into was Bob Wilson, President of WorkersCompensation.com. Yesterday afternoon, Bob served as moderator of a great panel discussion entitled, “If You Had a Magic Wand.” Among the panel members was the always entertaining and insightful, Deborah Kohl, who practices law in Fall River, Massachusetts. Bob and Deb were joined by Michael Fish, attorney practicing in Birmingham, Darrell Brown, a high-level official with Sedgwick, and Abbie Hudgens, Administrator, Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

We’ve all heard the admonition, “It’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.” I thought the panel offered some important insights into how our system could be improved. More about that, perhaps, in a later post.

60 Tips in 60 Minutes — Causation

This morning, I’m putting some polish on my notes for one of the afternoon’s sessions: “60 Tips in 60 Minutes — Causation.” I’m honored to be on the panel with Alan Pierce [Pierce Pierce & Napolitano, Salem. MA], David Cohen [former General Counsel, Tampa Bay Buccaneers], and Tarek Elalayll, M.D. [Advanced Orthopedic and Spine, Hermitage, TN]. Also on our panel, and serving as our moderator is Matt Schiff [Sugar, Felsenthal, Grais, Hammer LLP, Chicago].

I’ve been on several panels in past years with both Matt and Alan, so I’m really looking forward to our rapid-fire program. I’ll let you know how it goes.
